find yourself and then lose yourself

As you know I’m reading the book The five Secrets you must discover before you die by John Izzo and yesterday I came to the fifth secret and a beautiful passage about how the people that are the happiest in life are those that were able to “Find themselves and then lose themselves”.  The people that were able to look inside themselves and find what they were good at, what brought them joy, what special talents they had, what they excelled in and then once they had gone through that self discovery process, they turned around and used that to better the world around them.  They did not continue to accumulate for selfish purposes, they turned around and found a way to give back and leave the world a better place than they had found it.

Every person interviewed in the book had this attitude.  Whether they were a barber or an astronaut.  A waitress or a Doctor.  A mother or a CEO…There is no person with no skill to small that can’t give back and that’s what this beautiful speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. does a wonderful job of reminding us.

If you believe you need more for yourself before you can begin to give back you will always be waiting.  Now is the time!
